From Call to Collection: The EEK Misfuel Job Timeline
A step-by-step guide to EEK Mechanical's misfuel process, from first call to tow-truck collection and workshop fuel system recovery.
Putting the wrong fuel in a vehicle is a common mistake, but the next steps make a real difference. Understanding the process can help you stay calm and act quickly. This guide walks through the full EEK Mechanical timeline, from the first call to vehicle collection, workshop recovery, and handover.
Step one: report the misfuel
If you have put petrol into a diesel vehicle or diesel into a petrol vehicle, switch the engine off as soon as it is safe to do so. Try not to start the engine again, because starting it can circulate the wrong fuel further through the system and may lead to substantial component repair costs. If the vehicle has already been started or driven, still switch it off and call; the workshop assessment will determine what is needed.
Call the customer hotline on 0808 280 6346. The team will confirm your location, vehicle details, and the fuel involved, then arrange the next available collection.
Step two: vehicle collection and tow
EEK Mechanical dispatches a tow truck to your location, whether that is a forecourt, roadside, home, or car park. The scene work is tow loading and safety only. The tow operator can help make the scene safe and load the vehicle securely, but there is no fuel system work at the collection location, and the recovery equipment is kept at the workshop where it belongs.
Your vehicle is then transported to a GBIFDA-certified workshop. This tow-to-workshop recovery approach means manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery is completed in a controlled environment, never at the roadside.
Step three: workshop recovery and testing
Once the vehicle arrives at the workshop, the team assesses the fuel system and carries out manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery. Because this happens in a certified facility, contamination can be identified thoroughly and the relevant components checked before the vehicle is returned. The workshop can verify affected parts such as fuel lines, filters, and injectors in line with manufacturer guidance.
After the recovery work, the vehicle is tested and prepared for handover. The exact time frame varies depending on the vehicle, the fuel involved, and workshop workload, and the team will keep you updated as the job progresses.
What to do now
If you have just misfuelled, do not start the engine. Move the vehicle somewhere safe only if you can do so without starting it, then call EEK Mechanical on 0808 280 6346. Leaving the engine off and waiting for collection is the safest first step. The sooner the vehicle is collected, the sooner it can be assessed at the workshop.
Recovery is fully itemised, and costs vary by tow distance, after-hours timing, and vehicle. For a detailed breakdown, see the rate card. The same hotline is available 24/7 if you need immediate guidance.
