If you notice milky or cloudy oil in your dipstick, it’s a sign that something is seriously wrong with your vehicle's engine. Here are the three most common causes of this issue and what you should do immediately to protect your engine until it reaches our certified workshop for proper recovery.

Common Causes of Milky Oil on Dipstick
- Coolant Contamination: This occurs when coolant leaks into the oil system, often due to a head gasket failure or cooling system issues. You’ll see milky or cloudy oil in your dipstick when this happens.
- Floodwater Ingestion: If your vehicle has been exposed to floodwaters, water may have entered the engine and contaminated the oil. Never start the engine until you’ve reached a workshop.
- Head Gasket Failure: A failed head gasket allows coolant to mix with engine oil, creating milky or cloudy oil. If this is suspected, keep the vehicle off and avoid running it until professional recovery is complete.

What You Should Do Right Now
- Do Not Start Your Engine: This is always the #1 rule when dealing with engine contamination. Park your vehicle safely until a tow truck can collect it and transport it to our NZIFDA-certified workshop for manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery.
- Contact Us: If you suspect contaminated oil, call us immediately at 0800 769 000. We dispatch a tow truck to collect your vehicle and complete the necessary recovery at our certified workshop.
