How to Claim — Step by Step

  1. 1
    Do not start the engine

If you have not started the engine, the damage is limited to the fuel tank. Every second you wait without starting it saves money.

  2. 2
    Call Eek: 0808 280 6346

We come to you — at the fuel station, on the road, or at home — assess on-site, and tow your vehicle to our certified workshop where the contaminated fuel is drained, the system flushed, and correct fuel added.

  3. 3
    Pay Eek upfront

Eek is not on AMI's approved panel. You pay us directly at the time of service. Keep your receipt — you'll need it for your claim.

  4. 4
    Receive your claim report

We provide a GST invoice and a detailed technical incident report: contamination type, litres extracted, components inspected, work performed, and full cost breakdown. This is exactly what AMI's claims assessor needs.

  5. 5
    Lodge your AMI claim

Call AMI or log in to your AMI account. Lodge a claim under your comprehensive policy. Attach the Eek invoice and incident report. AMI will assess and reimburse reasonable costs.

Common AMI Misfuel Scenarios

I put petrol in my diesel car and did not start the engine

Best case scenario. Call Eek immediately. The extraction is straightforward, damage is likely nil. AMI will cover the extraction and flush costs.

I started the engine briefly before realising

Very common. Stop immediately and do not drive. Some fuel has circulated but damage may still be limited. Call Eek — we assess on site and document everything for your AMI claim.

I drove for several kilometres before the car stopped

There may be fuel system damage. Eek will assess and document all findings. AMI covers repair costs for damage caused by the misfuel — the Eek report is your evidence.

AMI is asking for a specialist's report

That is exactly what we provide. The Eek technical incident report documents contamination type, litres extracted, components inspected, and all work performed. It is formatted for insurer assessment.
