Misfuel Repair Costs: What to Expect
How misfuel recovery is priced at EEK — what drives the cost, what appears on your invoice, and where to find current rates.
How misfuel recovery is priced
Every job is fully itemised. There is no flat rate. Total cost depends on tow distance, workshop time, what was misfuelled, parts required, and when the work takes place. See the rate card for current line-item rates.
The biggest cost driver: did the engine run?
If you stopped immediately and did not start the engine, recovery is usually straightforward — tow to the workshop, fuel system recovery to manufacturer specification, verification, and release. The vehicle typically goes home the same day.
If the engine was started or the vehicle was driven, workshop time increases and there is a higher chance of filter, injector, or pump work on top of standard recovery. Any additional component work is quoted separately by the workshop before it proceeds.
What appears on your invoice
Typical lines: tow, workshop labour, fuel disposal, replacement fuel, parts and filters where required, booking fee, and NZIFDA filing fee. Time-of-day and public-holiday multipliers apply to tow and labour. The deposit you paid at booking is not the total — the balance is settled when the job is complete.
